Pregnancy, Birth Shock And Stress.

Conception, Womb life and birth lay the foundations for all our lives and more and more people are beginning to realize the importance of this early stage of our development. Recent studies show that stress experienced at any of these stages of an infant's life can have huge implications, resulting in, at the very least a compromised immune system. This in turn can lead to symptoms of colic, excess mucus build up, respiratory issues, eczema and may also play a role in the increasing number of learning and behavioral problems in our society causing huge frustration to parents.

While in the womb the baby experiences all that the mother is experiencing as well as all that is going on in the environment. Any shock or stress the mother goes through the baby goes through also. Everything ingested by the mother – food, drinks, alcohol, medications and smoking - has an effect on the development of her baby.

It is so important that parents are educated to understand these early steps of human life. The mother should learn ways to communicate with her baby as it develops within her womb. After thirty weeks of pregnancy, brain mechanisms related to hearing are fully developed. Unborn babies from that point on are able to hear what their mothers say and absorb elements of the language. Patricia Kuhl, co-author and co-director of the Institute for Learning & Brain Sciences at the University of Washington, says: "The mother has first dibs on influencing the child's brain. The vowel sounds in her speech are the loudest units and the baby locks onto them."

The heart is the first organ to form during development of the body. When an embryo is made up of only a very few cells, each cell can get the nutrients it needs directly from its surroundings. But as the cells divide and multiply to form a growing ball, it soon becomes impossible for nutrients to reach all the cells efficiently without help. So the blood and circulatory system, powered by the heart, are the first organ system to develop. They are essential to carry nutrients and waste around the embryo to keep its cells alive.

It is at this point I believe the real communication begins. There are huge and long lasting benefits when a mother connects with the developing baby by connecting to her own heart energy - communicate through the heart, skills which can be easily learned.

The heart is a symbol of love and it is the sacred wisdom within the heart energy that is most powerful.

It is so powerful when a mother takes time to relax – sitting or laying down – consciously connects to her heart area, sensing the love for her developing child and imagine she was bathing her child with that love in a very real way. This sends powerful vibrations into the womb rippling through the cells of her baby. This I believe would contribute hugely and lay the foundation for a healthy and successful life.

Stress and shock at birth via C-sections, vacuum and forceps deliveries, I believe, are causing more damage than we realise and while they may be necessary the implications are huge. Stressful births can strain the head and neck, causing interference in the nerve signals between the brain and the digestive system.

An article published in the Independent in February 2013 points out that by age 2, babies born by caesarean section were (5) five times more likely to have allergies than those born naturally.

It goes on to state that early childhood exposure to microorganisms affects the immune system's development and onset of allergies," study lead author Christine Cole Johnson, chairwoman of the Health Sciences Department at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, said in a hospital news release. "We believe a baby's exposure to bacteria in the birth canal is a major influencer on their immune system."
I believe that there are far greater implications of Birth stress and if this is not addressed fully and in the right way it could turn out to be a nightmare for parents. I often say to parents to imagine you are in a deep sleep in bed and in the middle of the night, someone grabs you and pulls you out of your bed. How would you feel? Shocked and stressed I bet - mentally, emotionally and physically. Well this is what happens to a baby when they go through these types of deliveries.

This definitely compromises the immune system and may also lead to problems of learning, communication, focus, behaviour and social interaction all classified within the terms of Autism, ADD, AHDD, ASPERGERS, DYSLEXIA etc. even chronic fatigue that is causing huge problems for both children and parents at the moment. I believe that this birth shock and stress may influence the way children react negatively to vaccines. Their compromised digestive system may not be able to metabolise the metals in the vaccines and these metals then become very toxic and affect brain development.
Parents are very frustrated with the lack of information provided to them. Parents also feel they are not listened to by their Doctor and get very little help from the state. These are real health issues and need to be treated in that way, not as educational problems.

The baby's gut is the key, but first you need to know that when a baby is born naturally by going through the birth canal it experiences certain things that are essential. One of these things in the transfer of gut flora (bacteria) from the mother and if this does not happen the baby's digestive system is compromised resulting in colic symptom, reflux, respiratory problems etc. Then antibiotics are used and from there on it's a downward spiral.
It is imperative that a baby's gut is populated by friendly bacteria from the beginning. Newborn babies' intestines are sterile, and the first contact the baby has with bacteria is via the mother when it passes along the birth canal. Therefore, if the mother's bacteria balance is compromised, then any unfriendly bacteria and toxins will be passed to the baby. For this reason, it is important, if at all possible that the mother breast feeds the baby for at least six months (and this isn't always possible for a variety of reasons). In these ideal conditions the harmful bacteria will not be able to thrive in the gut.
When a woman is pregnant her body will prioritizes the nutrient needs of the baby. In cases where the Mum is consuming insufficient nutrients the body will compensate by taking from the Mum's body. Studies including recent research by The Royal Postgraduate Medical School in London highlights that women's brains shrink in pregnancy. Low-fat diets and those insufficient in essential fats result in 'baby brain' and post natal depression as a result of fats being robbed from the mother's brain over the course of the pregnancy. The body compensates similarly to meet requirements for calcium, vital B vitamins and the full range of vitamins and minerals.

Pregnant women should also know that by default, the body uses pregnancy as a dump for toxins. A Mum's diet or lifestyle, consciously or unconsciously high in toxins, can be enough to compromise her baby; which may lead to miscarriage. The baby at the very least is born with a toxic overload. It is for these reasons pregnant women should for example avoid having dental work done. Studies have shown that mercury will be transferred to the baby with negative affects.

Prof John Stein Oxford, believes that auditory & visual difficulties are caused by abnormal magnocellular development. Malfunction in the development of sensory nerves happens at the foetal stage & is said to cause eye convergence difficulties & inhibit steady eye fixation which is the possible cause of dyslexia. So you can see the importance for care and attention at pregnancy and birth

Nutrition in Pregnancy
So, nutrition plays an essential role in the health of the mother and the developing baby. Eating a balanced diet and a wide variety of foods that are rich in essential nutrients and fats is vital for the mother. This will help the mother to cope with the extra demands made upon her body. Remember even the slightest deficiencies during pregnancy can have serious effects on the health of the offspring.

Correcting the problems of this shock and stress

1. Release the stress through Bio-Energy therapy or Cranio-sacral therapy.
2. Massage the abdominal area of your Baby lightly.
3. Probiotics are always beneficial for babies.
4. Thrush / candida passed between Mum and baby is an indication of gut flora imbalance. It can lead to colic symptoms and should be treated. Candida becomes obsolete by rebalancing gut bacteria.
5. Keep your baby away from dairy, gluten and sugars. To minimise food intolerances in later life it is advised to avoid gluten until the baby is at least 1 year old. Infants cannot deal with dairy until at least 6 months old, many never. Dairy is proven to cause allergy symptoms, colic, ear infections and excessive mucus. Read labels carefully, opt for gluten and dairy free formulas and baby foods
• Formulas - consider Neocate, Nutramigen or at the minimum a lactose-free formula.
• Avoid processed baby cereals, juices and jar foods.
6. You may also need to see a nutritionist.
7. Plenty of water.
8. Play Mozart music to help relax your baby.
9. Love: plenty of love.
